iPad goes on sale today

Queues outside Apple stores as lusted-after device goes on sale

After several months of hype, the iPad has gone on sale today with consumers queuing through the night to buy the device. Apple stores across the country opened at 8am to cope with the demand.

All of the operators bar T-Mobile are offering data plans for the device, which has a 9.7 inch screen and is specifically designed for browsing the internet, watching videos and using apps.

Prices for the device start at 429 for a Wi-Fi only model which has 16GB of memory. The most expensive model costs 699 and can be connected to the internet through a 3G connection as well as Wi-Fi.

The data packages include a micro Sim card and are being offered on a 30 day rolling contract.
