Strong start for BlackBerry Q10

BlackBerry's Q10 smartphone has reportedly debuted to strong sales in the UK market.   The QWERTY device goes on general sale in Britain today (April 29), but went on early release at Selfridges last Friday (April 26).

The retailer reported that the BlackBerry Q10 has become its fastest-selling smartphone, moving all of its initial stock within two hours.

"The BlackBerry Q10 has been, without a doubt, the most highly-anticipated smartphone we have ever sold and is already our most successful," said Selfridges head of home and leisure Julian Slim.

Reports suggest that the launch day's stock was sold within six hours, forcing Selfridges to constantly replenish its supply throughout the weekend.

The BlackBerry Q10 is the second handset to come with the BB10 operating system pre-installed, following the launch of the flagship Z10 in early February this year.

Powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, the Q10 sports BlackBerry's signature QWERTY keyboard and a 3.1-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen.  Other features include an 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of on-board storage and 4G support.

According to Bloomberg, Thorsten Heins, BlackBerry CEO, is expecting sales of tens of millions for the foreseeable future.   ”We have very, very good first signs already after the launch in the UK.  This is going into the installed base of more than 70 million BlackBerry users so we have quite some expectations.  We expect several tens of millions of units,”
